You can apply for a study place in M.Sc. “Periodontology” in RWTHonline within the application period (Dezember 01 until July 15).
Please note that the application for a study place and the enrollment at the university are two different procedures.
Once we receive your complete documents, they will be assessed by the scientific director of the course. If you are meeting the admission requirements, you can be enrolled at the university. By enrolling you get a study placement at RWTH Aachen, that is you become a member of the university.
Your enrollment process needs to be completed in RWTHonline, a list of needed documents can be found in RWTHonline after your admission.

For your application, you need the following documents:

  • University degree certificate and Transcript of records
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

For Master’s courses of study mainly in English, adequate knowledge of English must be proven by non-native speakers of English who have not acquired their higher education entrance qualification at an English-language institution. The following certificates are recognized:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) „Internet-based“ test (IBT) with a result of at least 90 points,
  • IELTS test with a result of at least 5.5,
  • Cambridge Test – Certificate in Advanced English (CAE),
  • First Certificate in English (FCE) with a grade of at least B,
  • A certificate of English language skills at level B2 of the „Common European Framework of Reference of Languages“. Such evidence is provided, for example, by a German Abitur certificate, showing that English has been consistently taken as a subject and passed with the grade of “sufficient” up to the end of qualification level 1 (grade 11 for the G8 Abitur, otherwise grade 12).
  • Placement test at the RWTH Language Center at the B2 level (MK 7).

Our program requires a minimum of 24 months‘ work experience by the time of enrollment. The proof of work experience has to include the following information:

  • The employer’s address and stamp
  • Job title
  • Short task description
  • Date of joining and, if applicable, resignation date (duration)
  • Your proof of work experience must be signed by a superior or HR!

Please note that every work experience is examined individually and enrollment with the condition of submission of a certain amount of work experience is possible.

A transcript of records is a listing of your academic qualifications, including a list of all lectures, seminars, courses etc. you attended (listed for each semester) with credits earned and grades. The transcript of records is issued by your university and graduates receive it normally together with their degree certificate.

There are no limits to the design of the motivation letter. The important thing is that it is clear why you want to study with us, what advantages this will bring you and what drives you.

The study programme is aimed at graduates of dentistry who have been licensed to practise in Germany or who have a comparable foreign qualification.

There are two attendance phases per semester in Aachen, during which the practical content of the course is also taught at the dental clinic of the University Hospital. The third semester is reserved for the Master’s thesis, here there are no attendance days.
The attendance phases take place on weekdays as well as on Saturdays.

The periods indicated are subject to change; we will announce the exact semester dates in good time so that you can plan your journey and accommodation in good time.

If you are looking accommodation you can check our housing offerings here.

Between the attendance phases, the online courses take place during the week – mostly on Wednesday evening. The exact dates will be announced in good time, subject to change. The online courses will be recorded and made available as a time-delayed stream.

A workload of 125 hours is calculated per module, which corresponds to 5 ECTS. The 125 hours are divided into “contact time” (this includes the online seminars and the attendance times) and “self-study time” (literature, assignments, etc. provided by lecturers as well as preparation and follow-up of the lectures/seminars). The Master’s thesis accounts for 20 ECTS and takes 6 months to complete. In the module handbook you can see the ECTS number and the workload for each individual module.

The degree alone does not give you the German licence to practise dentistry. For this, a recognition process by the Federal Dental Association is necessary, in which not only your degree is examined, but also a specialist knowledge test and a language test (German level B2) are carried out. This process has no connection to our Master’s program.

In some countries, periodontics experts can bill for services differently and thus increase their income. However, you must clarify for yourself whether this applies to the country in which you practice.

Many countries also allow the title and expert status to be used for advertising.
